IT'S THE TRUTH,
FESTIVAL OF FACTS AND HOW
THEY RELATE TO OUR LIFE
For many students informational text is often not their first choice of reading material and an area in which many test scores lag. It's the Truth, It's Factual is a proven, ready-to-go project that can be used in a single classroom, grade level, or as it was originally created, for an entire school-wide activity. Geared to grades K- 5, the main goal of this unit is to differentiate by interest - while encouraging students to read, share and make connections with informational text and our lives. Since students choose their materials, readiness differentiation occurs, also. When I implemented this activity, it was a part of a school-wide enrichment plan. Some teachers had students work on it as an independent project, while others required completion. Both worked well.
Each child becomes an expert in an area of interest and has a chance to share knowledge. Unlike many fairs where someone does a project, puts it in a room and people walk by, this is a festival in which students' learning and enthusiasm grows because they are involved from beginning to end. Boys and girls find even more books they want to explore as they visit with other experts.
Everything you need to know for creating a festival of facts in your classroom or school is included in the packet you receive.
Wise World of Words is a unit of 12 ready-to-go card activities that strengthen student vocabulary, interest in words and their connections, word understanding and more! It supports the fact that the better our vocabulary and knowledge of words, the more expressive, clear, detailed and interesting we can be when we read, speak and write.
The Wise World of Words unit relates to standards and evolves from a clear plan of what students need to know, understand and be able to do. Based on varied thinking levels, products and content, WWW is a great extension for students grades 3 ‹ 8 as a challenge and to inspire more excitement about language! The younger grade levels may require more assistance in getting started on the activities, but will benefit from the higher level thinking.
Students explore words we use in their original language form, etymologies, word relationships, the connection between connotation and denotation, and more! Product suggestions that vary in modality support objectives.
You may use Wise World of Words in a number of ways in your classroom and allows for flexible grouping and interests.
